YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS PROGRAM

Town of Bernalillo Youth Conservation Corps

 

Program Purpose:
To teach marketable vocational skills and life skills to our youth
through the restoration of historic adobe properties.

 

Program Details:

  • Established November, 2006
  • Funded by New Mexico Youth Conservation Corp
    • 2006: $117,000.00
    • 2008: $142,000.00
  • Funded by the Town of Bernalillo
    • $155,000.00 (to date)
  • Funded by Sandoval County $17,000.00
  • Twenty-Eight Unemployed Youth hired through the course of the project (thirteen currently employed on the project)
  • Ages fourteen to twenty-five (under 16 require a work permit)

Projects:

  • Restore a 1920’s terrone barn on the Lorretto Park Complex to house the New Mexico Wine Museum at Bernalillo.
  • L.B. Putney Molino circa 1920’s to support TOD.  The LB Putney Mill is near the Downtown Rail Runner Station.  It is owned by the Town of Bernalillo

  • Conservation/Preservation of Earthen Architecture
  • Carpentry Skills
  • Drainage Transfer Preservation
