About the Bernalillo Police Department

A safe and crime-free community is created when there is a partnership between law enforcement agencies, town administration, the business community and the general public. That partnership is created and nurtured by strong leadership from the law enforcement agency whose job it is to execute the laws of the Town and State: our Bernalillo Police Department (BPD).

BPD provides 24 hour a day, 365 days a year community services. A staff contingent of 15 officers and Chief along with two office staff positions is equipped with the latest in law enforcement technology and information management systems capabilities. One of the strengths of the force is the local knowledge and understanding that comes from being in the community for a long period of time and having extensive experience in the field of law enforcement.

Given the geographic location of Bernalillo and the amount of traffic that passes through our community every day to points East, West, North and South, the varied needs for police presence calls upon our officers to be multi-task oriented. That requirement means unique and broad training, diverse tactical and operational opportunities, advancement scenarios and teamwork tasks with agencies from neighboring municipalities, Tribal, State and Federal Government law agencies. In short, our officers have all the capabilities of larger city forces without the bureaucratic pressures inherent with a large organization.
