About the Town Treasurer

The Treasurer directs and supervises the activities of the Finance Department; maintains all governmental fund and account groups in accordance with current governmental accounting standards; manages Town investments; monitors the collection and deposit of all revenues; maintains general ledger for governmental funds and account groups; administers payroll; prepares annual budget; and participates in annual audit. Mr. Chavez is responsible for implementation of the Town's fiscal policies, goals and objectives, and ensures enforcement of all applicable laws, ordinances and regulations.

Prior to joining the Town of Bernalillo, Mr. Chavez was responsible for diverse utility accounting and financial reporting functions at PNM, and most recently served as a Revenue Agent in the Audit and Compliance Division at the State of NM Taxation and Revenue Department. In addition to his diverse experience in the area of accounting, financial reporting and auditing, Mr. Chavez holds a Bachelor of Business with a Finance Major from UNM Anderson School of Business. He is a United States Army veteran, and he and his family reside here in Bernalillo.
